Position Overview:

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting site-wide health, safety, and emergency response programs. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while driving a strong, visible safety culture across the plant. This position partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, and contractors to reduce risk, improve safety performance, and support continuous improvement aligned with company HSE goals.


What you will be doing:

Site Safety & Compliance

  • Oversee daily safety programs across the site 
  • Ensure equipment inspection programs are maintained by Production and Maintenance teams
  • Manage safety signage, postings, and communication boards
  • Lead and support plant-wide safety meetings and drills
  • Audit safety practices and provide actionable feedback on compliance gaps
  • Support development and implementation of site-specific safety improvements

Programs & Contractor Management 

  • Administer plant respirator program and ensure department accountability 
  • Partner with Purchasing and Operations on contractor safety management
  • Interface with contractors on safety expectations and performance
  • Recommend and implement program improvements

Personnel Safety & Industrial Hygiene

  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions 
  • Serve as an active member of the site Safety Committee
  • Maintain a strong field presence to promote safe behaviors and reduce risk
  • Support incident investigations and corrective action tracking
  • Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring and reporting

Emergency Response

  • Support site emergency response and natural disaster preparedness 
  • Coordinate and participate in emergency response training
  • Manage inspections and testing of fire protection and emergency equipment (extinguishers, hoses, SCBA, escape packs, Level A suits)

Reporting & Communication

  • Participate in site safety meetings and leadership reviews
  • Track and communicate safety metrics, action items, and compliance status


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or associate’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
  • 3–5 years of safety experience in a manufacturing or chemical plant environment
  • Proven history of stability and long-term contribution in prior roles
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Experience supporting safety training, audits, and compliance programs
  • Strong communication and ability to work across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced plant environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; SAP experience preferred
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts and support on-call emergency response
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
  • Experience in a union environment preferred
