Summary 

This position works closely with the Farm Manager, Storage Manager, Director of Sales, Shipping Supervisor, and Lab and Quality Supervisor to ensure efficient shipping operations, accurate inventory management, and consistent product quality standards across all storage and shipping facilities. The Shipping and Quality Manager provides leadership and oversight for shipping coordination, quality assurance, inventory accuracy, and customer service related to chip potato storage and distribution operations. 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all shipping, inventory, and quality operations related to Dalhart chip storage facilities. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, consultants, and shared services regarding shipping schedules, inventory status, and product quality concerns. 
  • Manage and support the Shipping Supervisor and Lab and Quality Supervisor to ensure operational consistency, accountability, and effective communication across departments. 
  • Work with the Director of Sales, Storage Managers, and Shipping Supervisor to coordinate shipping loads based on run schedule, product quality, customer specifications, and logistical considerations. 
  • Make daily operational decisions regarding shipping priorities, inventory movement, and quality management while clearly communicating the rationale behind those decisions. 
  • Oversee inventory tracking systems to maintain accurate storage inventories, product quality records, and shipping documentation. 
  • Monitor and manage potato quality standards in collaboration with the Lab and Quality Supervisor, Farm Manager, and agronomy team. 
  • Ensure quality control procedures, grading standards, and customer specifications are consistently followed across all shipping locations. 
  • Work closely with Storage Managers and quality personnel by walking bins regularly to promote consistency between shipping and storage facilities. 
  • Manage inventory utilization to maximize contract performance, including oversized potato management and product allocation strategies. 
  • Assist with coordinating crop grading, storage filling operations, and maintenance and cleaning of bins throughout the year. 
  • Support the Shipping Supervisor and Storage Managers in maintaining efficient daily shipping operations and customer service standards. 
  • Work with seed farms, Storage Manager, Operations manager, and agronomy team to coordinate seed shipments and handling for spring planting, including scheduling seed warming, cutting, and suberizing. 
  • Assist in analyzing storage control data and operational performance metrics to maximize crop quantity and quality in collaboration with the Farm Manager, Storage Managers, and Agronomist. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain operational procedures related to shipping, inventory control, and quality assurance. 
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, customer satisfaction, and operational consistency. 
  • Take on other tasks and responsibilities, as needed. 

Off Season Responsibilities 

  • Work with Agronomy team to scout fields and evaluate preharvest crop quality and sizing profiles.  
  • Manage and support bruise free program initiatives during harvest season. 
  • Assist with planning and preparation for upcoming storage, shipping, and quality operations. 
  • Provide leadership in reviewing operational performance and implementing process improvements during the offseason. 

Physical Demands 

  • Walking and working outdoors in the elements. 
  • Standing for extended periods of time. 
  • Driving between farm sites to move samples and other supplies. 
  • Occasional lifting of samples, supplies, and equipment associated with shipping and quality operations. 

Expected Hours of Work 

  • During shipping season typical daily hours are 7 AM to 5 PM, five to six days a week. 
  • Harvest and planting seasons may require longer hours. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in an Ag related field or equivalent operational experience. 
  • At least three years of experience in crop shipping, storage operations, produce quality assurance, or agricultural logistics management. 
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of produce storage, shipping logistics, inventory management, and quality control systems. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, including the ability to train, coach, and work effectively with operational teams on the farm. 
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills. 
  • The ability to prioritize and re-prioritize in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. 
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to be self-directed while still valuing and collecting team input. 
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to balance operational efficiency and product quality. 
  • A valid US driver’s license or the ability to obtain one and pass vehicle insurance verification. 
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
