JOB SUMMARY:

The Food Safety Coordinator /Lab Supervisor oversees the daily operations of food manufacturing facility’s food safety programs and quality laboratory to ensure products meet safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Responsible for leading a team of technicians, managing the testing protocols and maintaining compliance with the systems like HACCP, SQF, FDA and USDA regulations. Between mid-June and mid-October supervises and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in performing sample testing required for quality control of products and processes. This position works very closely with other departments (maintenance, warehousing and quality assurance) to provide the necessary support to manufacture and distribute products in compliance with company and regulatory expectations. The role requires a mix of office-based administrative work and physical presence on the production floors and outdoor warehouse. Coordinators may need to work flexible hours, including weekends or off shifts to monitor some aspects of the operations or respond to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

Lab Supervisor (Mid-June – Mid October)

  • Supervise, schedule and train laboratory technicians on JGBC policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ensure minimum staffing requirements are met at all times, and if necessary fill in for individuals not reporting to work.
  • Improve training materials as needed.
  • Ensure established procedures are performed correctly and on schedule, including instrument calibration, sample collection, analysis, review, and reporting.
  • Review and validate test results for accuracy, investigate out of specification results, and issue Certificates of Analysis.
  • Maintain sufficient laboratory supplies as needed. Maintain sufficient knowledge of lab instruments and device operations to perform routine troubleshooting.

Food Safety Coordinator (October – June)

  • Conduct regular food safety audits and inspections to ensure adherence to customer, third party and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Food Safety Plans, including HACCP and FSMA requirements.
  • Follows audit schedule and responds to daily changes.
  • Audits cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility.
  • Updates Audit forms regularly to ensure forms are accurate.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all the Food Safety and Quality training needs of the organization are met, including conducting Food Safety and Quality Tailgate and Orientation Training for all staff.
  • Report on Food Safety & Quality problems to area Supervisor and/or Food Defense issues to the Food Safety and Quality Management.
  • Maintain records of training sessions, inspection, corrective actions and other food safety related documentation.
  • Investigate food safety incidents or non-conformances, identify root cause, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene, follow JGBC GMP’s.
  • Follow documented policies, procedures, and work instructions.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Responsible for performing all job requirements in a safe manner using the proper PPE and proactive safety role model for co-workers.
  • Responsible for correcting /reporting unsafe behaviors or equipment to ensure a safe working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Deep understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Strong Attention to detail and the capacity to communicate technical requirements to diverse teams in Spanish and English
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to bring urgent matters to the attention of proper personnel for immediate resolution.
  • Ability to read and interpret procedures, safety information, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Must have computer skills and ability to utilize standard Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.)
  • SQF Practitioner Certified, not required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or 3 years of food manufacturing experience
  • At least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role, preferred, not required
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing
  • SQF Practitioner Certification, preferred, not required
  • PCQI Certification, preferred, not required
  • HACCP Certification, preferred, not required

Work Location: Buttonwillow, CA and Corcoran, CA
