Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Reports To: Plant manager                                        

Department:  EH&S      

Location: Rossford

Purpose:

The position will provide leadership and oversee the EHS Management System at the Rossford facility to ensure compliance with NSG policies and procedure, and all appropriate industry codes and regulatory standards.  The position acts as the facility ISO 14001 Management Representative.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop effective EH&S programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses and environmental impacts.
  • Act as the Site’s EH&S Management System Lead, working with the Staff, leadership Team, and workforce to improve performance.
  • Manage site activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, other, including Title V air permit, RCRA Large Quantity Generator, SPCC, SWPPP and more.
  • Ensure correct and on-time completion of all regulatory or NSG EHS related reports.
  • Lead the Occupational Health Nurse and the EHS Specialist as necessary to ensure the effective execution of the EH&S Management System.
  • Support the activities of the plant through effective communication with operations and/or outside agencies.
  • Coordinate the generation and reporting of accurate statistical measures of safety program effectiveness consistent with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring and develop appropriate control measures.
  • Promote employee involvement Safety activities at all employment levels.
  • Introduce new safety policies and practices as they become necessary.
  • Assist engineering in the assessment and design of safe workstations and equipment.
  • In conjunction with the facility financial staff, coordinate annual budget activities and assure that accurate reports to management are produced. Establish and maintain the facility safety policy manual.
  • Coordinate OSHA compliance activities in conjunction with the corporate staffs and provides regular reports to management regarding compliance status, the cost of compliance, and the results of inspections.
  • Participate in incident reporting, review reports for completeness and accuracy. Follow-up on incident root cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Prepares the plant’s “Emergency Action Plan”, and emergency response activities.

Secondary Duties:

  • Facilitate the Central Safety Steering Team system.
  • Perform as the site’s workers compensation program.
  • Work closely with the plant nurse and follow up on injuries and near misses reported to the First Aid Department.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Chemical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong mentoring, training and coaching ability
  • Strong knowledge of fire prevention programs
  • Strong knowledge of Federal, OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods for safety management
  • Strong EHS auditing, reporting, and investigation skills
  • Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Available for travel (~10%) related to EHS related activities, audits and more.
  •  Valid driver's licenses with satisfactory driving record within Company required standard.
  •  5+ years manufacturing experience, preferably glass
  •  5+ years coordinating H&S activities.
  •  Perform in a “continuous” facility operation.

Qualifications Desired:

  • Certified to instruct OSHA 10- and 30-hour course.
  • Background with ISO/QS systems
  • Experience with Title V Air permitting.
  • Experience with Pollution Control Plants.
  • Auditing skills/experience
  • Experience in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental and Health/Workers Compensation
  • Strong background and knowledge in OSHA compliance; familiarity with Code of Federal Regulations- Labor
  • Board Certification in safety and/or industrial hygiene.
