Position Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator implements the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs that ensure a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role works closely with operations to identify hazards, prevent incidents, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

The EHS Coordinator plays a key role in implementing a proactive safety culture by engaging with employees, supporting training initiatives, and assisting in continuous improvement efforts across Environmental, Health, and Safety programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership Responsibilities 

  • Flexibility to support off-shift operations, as needed
  • Ability to lead the response to incidents or emergencies
  • Demonstrate leadership in promoting a proactive safety culture

Regulatory Compliance 

  • Implements compliance with applicable regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), as applicable
  • Implements maintaining required training records, and reports
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and audits; support corrective action follow-up

Safety Program Support

  • Implementing and maintaining EHS programs including:
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Fall Protection
  • Hazard Communication (HazCom)
  • PPE and Respiratory Protection
  • Emergency Action Plans
  • Support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safe work practices
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and observations

Incident Management

  • The EHS Coordinator responds promptly to workplace injuries and medical emergencies and provides basic first aid within the scope of training
  • Assess incidents and determine if additional medical treatment or emergency services are required
  • Coordinate with emergency responders and provide clear communication during incidents
  • Assist with incident investigations, including near misses, first aid, and recordable injuries
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action tracking
  • Maintain incident reports and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

 Environmental Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing environmental compliance programs:
  • Air emissions
  • Stormwater and wastewater
  • Waste handling and disposal
  • Support inspections and monitoring activities
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and handling of chemicals and materials

 Audits & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct routine inspections and assist with internal audits
  • Track audit findings and corrective actions to closure
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement

 Training & Employee Engagement

  •  Coordinate and deliver EHS training (new hire orientation, toolbox talks, refresher training)
  • Track and manage data entry of training records
  • Promote employee involvement in safety initiatives and reporting programs

Job Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Basic incident investigation and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to influence safe behaviors and build trust with employees
  • OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry or Construction) certification (preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field preferred but not required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • 1–5 years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, or mining environment preferred
  •  Experience with OSHA/EPA/MSHA regulations is a plus

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
