About this Position
The Water Quality Specialist II assists the Water Quality Manager with our Phase II Program for EPA's NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System). This water specialist will help develop, implement, and execute the stormwater program. Duties include public involvement, illicit discharge control, construction site runoff control, and pollution prevention.
This position works Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, with a half day on Friday (7:30 am to 11:30 am).
Qualifications
- Education/training equivalent to 4 years of college in...
- Environmental science
- Ecology
- Hydrology
- Or related fields
- 3 years of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Nationally recognized certification demonstrating proficiency in EPA’s NPDES Program
- Or ability to acquire said certification within 6 months
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Responsibilities
- Perform runoff control inspections on construction sites
- Participate in public education and outreach activities
- Compile and prepare the NPDES Phase II Annual Report
- Organize and attend construction site meetings to suggest BMPs (Best Management Practices)
- Respond to citizen complaints and requests
- Review Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and Erosion & Sediment Control Plans
- Detect and remove illicit discharges in storm sewers and waterways
- Evaluate program activities and recommend modifications or additions
- Assist in developing long-range goals
- Mentor other Water Quality Specialists

- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position
- Ability to pass extensive background process, including a hearing test and a drug screening
