Scope/Purpose of the Position

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for monitoring, documenting, creating, improving, and enforcing food safety policies, process control, and quality assurance testing. Additionally, they will create presentations and train team members on GMPs, food safety, and quality related topics. The QA Technician will take swift corrective action when food safety and quality assurance have deviations and will support the Quality Assurance Manager and QA Team in regular testing and inspections of all assigned food safety projects. This role is hands-on and highly interactive in a fast-paced and ever-changing production environment. The ability to quickly assess risk, make educated food safety decisions, and ensure plans are executed are critical attributes of the QA Technician. 


Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Manage, track, and communicate required safety training courses to Ranch staff, clearly document Bakerly food safety policies, and create interesting and accurate safety training presentations.
  • Monitor, audit, and cultivate process controls (CCP’s, Allergen Control, Foreign Material Control, Labeling Requirements, Package Integrity, Product Specifications) to ensure adherence to all food safety and quality programs.
  • Perform sample collection for microbiological or chemical testing (APC, Yeast & Mold, Water Activity, Moisture).
  • Develop and perform product sampling and analysis to monitor, improve, and adapt product texture and shelf-life. Document, monitor and analyze data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all products manufactured by Bakerly Ranch as well as the raw materials, packaging materials, and operations required in the manufacturing process. 
  • Troubleshoots and takes appropriate corrective action when deviations occur within quality assurance. 
  • Investigate customer feedback and internal incidents to create responses in a timely manner. 
  • Track and monitor completion of preventive and corrective action plans for improving quality of product.
  • Perform quality audits (AQL’s) to ensure product meets specification and contributes heavily to audits by reviewing paperwork for accuracy and compliance with all food safety and quality programs. 
  • Trains and monitors all team members on GMPs, food safety, and quality related topics including but not limited to GMP’s, SSOP’s, and SOP’s.
  • Troubleshoot standard laboratory machines and equipment for laboratory testing and exams
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.


Requirements

  Job Qualification Requirements:

  • 3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance role in a food manufacturing facility or bachelor’s degree in a science discipline with 1 year of experience in a food manufacturing facility in lieu of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent understanding of creating clear and effective training presentations as well as experience administering training to teammates of varying abilities. 
  • Clear understanding of microbiology; surface swabbing, analyzing environment, organization of samples, and collaboration with micro lab within the food industry. Ability to read lab results is awesome. 
  • Sanitation experience - including procedures, handling of chemicals, creating SSOP’s, and sanitation requirements understanding.
  • Understands rigorous monitor process controls and background successfully implementing and maintaining them within a food production environment. 
  • Experience with traceability exercise.
  • Knowledge of water activity analyses, moisture, and pH levels. 
  • Understanding of parameters that influence manufacturing and baking process as well as quality of product.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs and Food Safety training.
