This job will have the responsibility for the overall condition of core dies and tooling through the tool room process. This will include but not be limited to the development and performance of core dies and tool room technicians. The role will be responsible for training technicians in the maintenance, handling, repair, and improvements of core dies and tooling. The position will assist in the development of process procedures which will produce core dies that are efficient, effective, and maximize tooling performance while minimizing costs against HOSHIN targets and process controls.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall management of the core dies through the tool room including the development, performance, and maintenance of tooling to help produce a smooth and efficient system, delivery solution, maximizing performance & profitability against pre-agreed targets and controls.
Be able to teach and guide technicians in shop safety, math, and interpretation of tool room documents such as prints and work orders.
Ensuring that the team understands the mechanism and mechanics of the core dies for all processes.
Assist the tool room leadership in meeting quality targets
Contribute to training and development of the team members in the tool room functions.
Assist with the tool room leadership by being an effective liaison, support, and assistance between Engineering, Manufacturing, and the Tool Room.
Maintain and improve mechanisms for processing core die components through the tool room, including delivery, process, outcomes, help minimize expenditure, and disseminate feedback to the appropriate individuals
Assist the tool room leadership in review of returns and develop corrective actions to eliminate and /or minimize returns which impact the tool room customers.
Assist in the development of activity instructions, product criteria, and standard work practices for the tool room to achieve targets
Developing plans for tool room process controls, standard work, and process efficiency.
Reporting (content and format as agreed) monthly or as otherwise required on tool room technician’s competency as outlined in the job requirements
Assist in managing and maintaining contact with internal and external “client/customers”
Assist the tool room leadership in auditing of the maintaining of accurate tool room records as it relates to the Howmet Tooling Manual requirements and Activity Instructions’.

From time to time, you may be expected to be part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role.
You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed by your line manager.
You must be a contributor both in and towards developing and encouraging other technicians to ensure the smooth running of the tool room processes.
Provide training in the process and be knowledgeable of the PVD process.
Instruct and develop team members in bench methodology and terminology.
Direct and assists in the expectations of tool & die technicians.
Train tool room technicians in the proper assembly, disassembly, and handling of core dies and components.
Recommend new and/or improvements in tool equipment to drive continuous improvement of work standardization
Oversee and inspect the quality of core dies in the tool room to establish expectations, standards, and conformance per customer requirements.
Participate in assisting the tool room leadership performance yearly evaluation of tool & die technicians
Set an example for team members which reflects a positive commitment to meeting metrics, work ethics, and personal character
Assist in reviewing tool room documentation in relation to process controls and standard work are, up to date with current process flows and procedures.
Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Minimum of a High School Diploma; Attended an Accredited Public Technical College
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in Tool and Die role with knowledge and ability to perform draw polishing, and machining. The employee may be required to demonstrate level of proficiency.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED: Good eyesight is necessary; employees must be able to satisfy the requirements of A.I. M800, 01.14 Eye Exams at a minimum. Lifting/ maneuvering of Tooling or Support Tooling
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Problem solving abilities are important for analyzing problem situations and resolving them.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are required to interface all levels of personnel in plant.
