Health and Safety Manager | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI
American factories deserve a supply chain that moves as fast as they do. The next generation of American manufacturing is being built right now. Nox Metals is the supply chain behind it.
Nox Metals is a technology company in Detroit supplying aluminum plate, bar, and rounds to aerospace and defense manufacturers. We use software and automation to supply metal to American factories faster than the industry thought possible.
We need a Health and Safety Manager to own EHS end to end. Every operator, every shift, every cut, every load goes home safe. Nothing about this is negotiable. Nox Metals is an employer with real opportunity for long term career growth, this is a place to build a career, not just hold a job.
You will:
Own health, safety, and environmental compliance end to end across the entire facility
Build, run, and continuously improve our EHS program from the ground up
Own OSHA compliance, recordkeeping, reporting, and inspection readiness
Own environmental compliance, waste, air, water, hazardous materials, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Run training programs for every operator, driver, lead, and manager, new hire orientation through annual refreshers
Walk the floor every single day, you are not a manager who lives in an office
Run safety audits, identify hazards before they cause incidents, and close findings fast
Build and enforce SOPs for safe operation of saws, CNC equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, and material handling
Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action when something goes wrong, fix it once and fix it for good
Own PPE programs, lockout tagout, machine guarding, ergonomics, and confined space procedures
Own waste streams, hazardous material storage, SDS management, and disposal manifests
Build dashboards and reports on incident rate, near misses, training compliance, and audit findings
Partner with the Director of Manufacturing Operations and shift leads to embed safety into every workflow
Always ask questions, never guess when something is unclear
Look at every process and figure out how to make it better
Work safely every shift and hold the entire factory to the same standard
You should be:
3 to 4+ years owning EHS in a manufacturing, metals, machining, or comparable industrial environment
OSHA and industrial safety background, this is non-negotiable
Fluent in OSHA general industry standards, EPA regulations, and applicable state and local environmental rules
Experienced building EHS programs from scratch and running them in audit-ready shape
Skilled at running training programs that operators actually pay attention to
Comfortable as a solo IC, you own the function end to end
An operator at heart, you walk the floor, you talk to operators, you do not run safety from a desk
Cracked with software and data, you build EHS records that are searchable, reportable, and audit-ready
Committed to safety, this is the job, every protocol, every PPE check, every hazard identified and closed
High attention to quality, every record, every audit, every incident report
Always thinking about how to make processes better, you do not accept "this is how we have always done it"
Absolutely customer obsessed, a safe factory is the foundation of every customer commitment we make
A team player with a good attitude, you make the floor better for everyone around you
Someone who takes ownership, if it touches health, safety, or environment, it is your responsibility
Precise under pressure and reliable, safety does not bend for a deadline
Organized and detail oriented, audit-ready every day, not just on audit day
High agency, you handle big items alone and ask for help when needed
Low ego, you do the unglamorous work because it needs to get done
Able to lift up to 50 lbs and operate heavy equipment on your feet when the floor needs you
Not afraid to work outside normal hours when America demands it
Never says "that's not my job"
Nice to have:
Experience in metals, aluminum, or aerospace/defense supply chains
CSP, CIH, ASP, or comparable EHS credentials
OSHA 30, OSHA 500, or trainer certifications
HAZWOPER certification
Forklift and/or overhead crane certification
Comfortable using AI tools to work faster and smarter
