Job Purpose:
The Food Safety and Quality Senior Specialist, under the direction of the Quality Director, supports the end-to-end processes to ensure quality and food safety is paramount throughout all areas/functions/sites, and all processes comply with all applicable regulatory, food safety certifications, and Malteurop's Quality and Food Safety standards.

QUALITY COMPLIANCE
- Direct support to the functions of the Quality Director, step in on tasks in their absence
- KPI performance monitoring and development
- Identifies and communicates trends in inbound grain to corresponding malt production and malt shipments
- Performs food safety and quality audits and manages corrective action plans internally and across third party warehouses, transloads, distribution centers
- Supports SAP functions of accuracy, and may include release of material for production purposes, analyzing blend data, traceability exercises, among other functions
- Follows
- Supports, and at times leads, Root Cause Analysis and corresponding Corrective and Preventative Actions, including the verification of effectiveness
- Supports and Collaborates issuing certificates of analysis for malt shipments
- Documentation Organization to keep all documents current and accessible
FOOD SAFETY / FOOD DEFENSE:
- Ensures the Food Safety Plan is accurate and current for all 4 locations
- Ensures all corporate, customer, regulatory compliance
- Ensures robust and comprehensive risk assessments of each site, as part of their HACCP plan
- Performs internal GMP, Site Security, and other applicable Inspections
- Assists, and at times conducts, internal Food Safety/Food Defense audits
- Drives internal policy management and creating a strong FS/Q culture
- Participates and supports with required internal training sessions
- Supports supplier approval questionnaires from our customers
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other science related field
- 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, Food Safety, or related field in Food Industry or Grain Processing
- Knowledge of Food Safety, FSMA, FDA, and labeling regulations
- CFIA knowledge an advantage
- Knowledge of food safety quality systems (GFSI, ISO 2200) preferred
- Experience with ERP systems; preferably SAP
- Result-driven with excellent communication, analytical, and decision making skills
- Strong proficiency in MS Programs
- Ability to travel domestically up to 30%
- Prior Laboratory experience including hands-on laboratory analysis work, practical data evaluation is an advantage
- Practical knowledge of barley biochemistry, farming practices is an advantage
- Malting and/or brewing experience desirable
